Wills Creek Winery

Most of us these days are tired, overworked, running 100 mph all-day
every day with no end in sight… If you are like me and need some R & R
to relax but can’t necessarily afford the time or money it takes to go on
a lavish vacation, you may want to check out North Alabama wine
country.
One of my favorite destinations to visit is Wills Creek Winery.

Founders Jahn and Janie Coppey established Wills Creek Vineyards in 1996
and opened the Winery in 2001. Jahn grew up in the Rhône valley of

Switzerland in a family of vineyard owners. With Janie's family history in

farming, planting vineyards on the family’s property was a perfect
transition to grow muscadines and produce a variety of muscadine and
vinifera wines.

When you walk into the tasting room at Wills Creek, you can expect a warm
welcome from the staff and the lavish smells wafting from the wine
production room. You can expect to find locally made gifts for sale in the
tasting room such as jams, jellies, and candles. If you dabble in
winemaking, they sell wine-making supplies and even offer winemaking
classes on the first Saturday of the month.

Head of over to the tasting bar and the staff will guide you through a
tasting whether you like dry or sweet they will definitely have one to suit
your palette.  Once you find the wine of your choosing, I definitely
recommend grabbing a glass or a bottle and heading out to the patio, sitting
under the pecan trees, or in the sunroom to enjoy the absolutely
breathtaking views. Wills Creek is nestled in the foothills of the
Appalachian Mountains and overlooks a beautiful pond where you can see
various wildlife including a family of bald eagles that will often fish out
of the pond. Oh, how can I forget the famous winery cat Mittens!? Mittens is
a big fluffy Polydactyl cat who has thumbs! He will become your best friend
and he loves belly rubs and cheese! Speaking of cheese, if you are in the
mood for a snack, they offer meat and cheese trays with different types of
cheeses and Elk and Buffalo sausage all sourced from local farms.

Wills Creek offers a wonderful Sunday brunch if you have a larger appetite.

Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation though, it fills up
quickly!
