North Alabama Wine Trail

Did you know that Alabama has wineries and vineyards? What if I told you, you could visit award-winning wineries in North Alabama and taste some amazing wines and see some beautiful vineyards along the way? I am going to walk you through the wineries of North Alabama and tell you some of my favorite wines at each stop.

Jules J Berta, Albertville, Alabama- Jules J Berta is an award-winning winery right off of 431 in Albertville. Here you can enjoy wine tastings, delicious pizzas, charcuterie boards, and the famous wine slushies! Some of my favorites here are the Dog at Large (blackberry wine), the Strawberry, and Peach. I am more of a sweet wine lover, but they do have some more traditional wine flavors as well if you prefer.

Wills Creek Winery, Atalla, Alabama- Wills Creek is nestled in the foothills, overlooking a pond, which makes for a beautiful, serene visit. As far as the wine selection, I like them all... but my favorites are the Lullabelle and Princess. They also offer meat and cheese platters and Sunday brunch.

Maraella Winery and Vineyards, Hokes Bluff, Alabama- Maraella is a lovely winery offering a nice variety of traditional and sweet wines. They have a nice outdoor area and offer food trucks during football season. My favorites here are the Cremisi (red muscadine), Dorato Vino (white muscadine), Blueberry, and the Cabernet Sauvignon. They are actually the only winery in Alabama to grow their own Cabernet grapes, so if you are a Cab drinker, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

The Fruithurst Wine Company, Fruithurst, Alabama- Fruithurst is well off the beaten path in Northeastern Alabama. They have some great fruit wines, and my faves here are the Blackberry, Peach, and Strawberry. Try as many as you want... they are all great. They also offer a variety of gifts and novelties in the tasting room.

High Country Cellars, Heflin, Alabama- The owner Keith was very knowledgeable and guided us through a tasting while explaining each wine. The Skeeter Piss was a must-try! Just trust me... the name alone made me want to try it... LOL. You definitely will not find this one in Napa.

White Oak Vineyards, Anniston, Alabama- White Oak offers a nice variety of fruit wines and traditional wines. They offer a sparkling Muscadine that is a must-try. For a nice red, I prefer the Scarlet which is a red blend. They also offer tours of the winery and vineyards upon request.

Pick up a wine trail passport at one of the wineries and be sure to get it stamped at all of your stops. At the end of the trip, you will receive a free gift! For additional info, check out NORTH ALABAMA WINE TRAIL - Wineries, Wine Trail, Winery, Wineries
